Rotary bowlers roll for literacy

SO … HOW MANY TICKETS? — From left, Rotary members John Saxton, Rayni Goldthwait, Al Wehrle and Gery Walker sell tickets at the Rotary Club of DeLand’s 13th annual Bowling for Literacy Tournament Aug. 11 at Sunshine Bowling Center in DeLand. Twenty-seven teams, sponsored by businesses or individuals, competed to raise funds to benefit the Dictionary Project. These funds will be used to purchase age-appropriate dictionaries for more than 3,000 third-grade students and their teachers at public and private elementary schools in West Volusia. After all the friendly competition, these were the winning teams: Surety Bank, first place; Total Comfort, second place; and Sunshine Bowling Center, third place. Breakfast Rotary placed first in the competition of the area Rotary Clubs.
