Five members of the DeLand Bulldog Wrestling Club earned All-American honors at the AAU Scholastic National Duals that took place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in the Disney World Complex.

Those earning All-American status by placing in the top of their divisions were Makenzy Garcia, Brady Bowles, Marcus Vega, Elijah Vega and Hank Roberts. The club is directed by coach Chris Folsom, who also serves as the wrestling coach for the school.

Other club members who competed in the tournament were JT Hewson, Azizbek Rustamly, Grant Schwartz, Jaymes Morris, Jared Jackson, David Arcieri, Aaron Morris and Taylor Sturgeon.

The tournament lasted for four days, and was quite a challenge for the wrestlers. The tournament featured powerhouse teams from Ohio, Iowa and Pennsylvania, which are some of the power areas in NCAA wrestling.

The club will begin the fall season for boys and girls in the fourth grade and up on Tuesday, Sept. 4. The fall season will run through Oct. 30. Team practice takes place 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the old gym at DeLand High School.

Registration costs $25, and athletes must be AAU members. Membership can be purchased at aausports.org for $14. If you have questions, email coach Folsom at bulldogmiddle@cfl.rr.com.
