A Daytona Beach man was arrested in DeLand in the early morning Feb. 10 after he crashed his car on the Stetson University campus after running over several bushes, a lamppost, several patio chairs and a table before smashing into a tree, according to the police report.

Police said the man had fled the scene of a disturbance at a DeLand bar that left another man with stab wounds in his shoulder.

A DeLand Police Department officer on patrol had observed a possible fight just after 3 a.m. Monday at Tropical Breeze bar, 223 W. Voorhis Ave., according to the police report.

The officer stopped to check things out, and observed a black Acura attempting to leave the bar parking lot. According to the incident report, the occupants of the Acura complied with the officer’s request to stop the car and exit the vehicle.

As the officer and the individuals were conversing, a black BMW attempted to exit the parking lot at high speed, hitting the Acura and nearly hitting the officer, the report states.

The BMW left the parking lot and drove east on Voorhis Avenue before turning north on Woodland Boulevard.

Another DeLand officer observed the BMW traveling at high speed northbound on Woodland Boulevard, the report states. The officer followed and attempted a traffic stop, but the BMW didn’t stop, and it turned east onto the Stetson campus instead, according to the report.

Back at the bar, the officer made contact with a man who said the BMW driver had stabbed him in the shoulder after the two argued about the BMW driver pulling a woman’s hair at the bar, the report states. The stabbing victim was evaluated by paramedics from the DeLand Fire Department, but refused treatment or transportation to the hospital, according to the report.

The BMW was later found crashed into a tree on the Stetson University campus, with no one inside.

One officer with Stetson University Public Safety witnessed the crash, and other members of the Public Safety team pursued the driver on foot after he jumped out of the car, the report states, finally confronting him near the library.

Patrick Ferguson, 28, of Daytona Beach, was arrested by DeLand Police Department officers a short time later. He was charged with aggravated battery, assault on a law-enforcement officer, attempted fleeing from law enforcement, reckless driving, driving under the influence and driving without a valid license, according to police.
