Tra Thomas Park in the 200 block of South Frankfort Avenue in DeLand features a playground as well as an outdoor basketball court, a pavilion, a swing set, two horseshoe pits and restrooms.

The pavilion can be reserved for parties or picnics through the Parks and Recreation Department.

On Jan. 19, the City of DeLand renamed the park to honor William “Tra” Thomas, who grew up in DeLand and lettered in football at DeLand High School, then played for Florida State, before being drafted in 1998 by the Philadelphia Eagles, for whom he played 11 seasons.

According to his Wikipedia page, Thomas started in 165 of 166 games at left offensive tackle with the Eagles and made three Pro Bowls during his time in Philadelphia. He also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and San Diego Chargers.

Thomas retired from football in 2012.
