PUBLIC NOTICE

In compliance with Federal Air Regulations of the Federal Aviation Agency, Public Notice is hereby given that Volusia County Mosquito Control will inspect for immature mosquitoes, and spray for immature and adult mosquitoes over congested areas in Volusia County.  Aircraft will fly at altitudes under 500 feet throughout the calendar year March 2018 through March 2020, for the suppression of mosquito populations when and where such flights are necessary. 

Inspection flights and landings will be made with helicopters for the purpose of locating and treating immature stages of mosquitoes in fresh and salt marsh flood areas.  This is vital to the detection and suppression of immature mosquitoes after rainfall and high tides. 

Both nuisance and disease important mosquito populations will be suppressed by rotor (helicopter) and fixed-wing (airplane) flights within the boundaries of Volusia County.

A qualified and approved contractor may provide fixed-wing ultra-low volume application of pesticide within the boundaries of Volusia County during periods of severe mosquito infestation or when it is necessary to mitigate the potential of mosquito borne disease. 

All such flights will be made in the public interest at such times as are considered necessary, and under such conditions considered effective, for the purpose of providing comfort and public health protection for residents and visitors.

Adult mosquito spray flights typically occur between sunset and sunrise, and are posted on the Volusia County website prior to the flights.
