Getting up is a struggle. You will yourself not to look, but the perfectly made part of the bed where your spouse used to sleep stares back at you. You drag yourself out of bed, out of the house, and into work, only to be greeted by a cheerful “how are you?” by everyone you pass. And yet no one stops to listen.
You wish you had someone to talk to about your marriage, your love life, the intimate details you’ve buried away but that keep coming back up.
If only there was someone who could understand, who would listen.
Finally, that person is here.
Dr. Arlene Krieger has worked with more than 3,000 couples and individuals throughout her 20-year career as a Marriage and Family Therapist.
“I believe people find me when they need me,” said Krieger. “I help couples and individuals through a wide range of issues, whether that be their relationship, sex, intimacy, divorce, kids. I get in the trenches right there with them.”
Dr. Krieger is triple-boarded as a licensed marriage and family therapist and holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Sexology and Human Sexuality. “I’m like Dr. Ruth but a bit younger,” Krieger joked.
Dr. Krieger decided to become a therapist after going through a divorce herself. “I got married at 19, dropped out of college, and then had to raise three kids as a single mom,” said Krieger. “At 38, I decided to go back to school. At first I thought I wanted to become a lawyer, but after a year of law school I decided I wanted to be in a field that could help people in a different way. With law, someone wins and someone loses, but with therapy most everyone wins.”
Dr. Krieger recently remarried, to a retired U.S. Air Force fighter pilot. Dr. Krieger and her husband decided to move to DeLand from Boca. “Life has been a whirlwind,” said Dr. Krieger. “Marriage and then moving — so much has been going on. But I love DeLand. It feels like home, and I’m excited to start my practice back up here.”
Dr. Krieger has been featured in Cosmopolitan magazine, Men’s Health magazine, The Washington Post, and more. She has a podcast, is the author of Sex: From the Couch, and is in the process of writing her second book.
Dr. Krieger’s office is located in DeLand at 112 W. Indiana Ave., Suite 206. To learn more about Dr. Krieger or to schedule an appointment, call 561-414-9596 or visitbocatherapy.com.
