The City of Deltona is Volusia County’s youngest and largest City and in 2020, the City celebrates its silver anniversary. City staff and community supporters have planned to incorporate the celebration into the City’s list of annual activities and also plan some new events to celebrate.

The issue of incorporation in Deltona was discussed as early as 1969, but incorporation attempts failed in 1987 and again in 1990. The third and final attempt came in 1995 and the “committee to incorporate” won by over 1,000 votes and at 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 31, 1995, Deltona became a city.

The City plans to kickoff this year long-celebration by unveiling a display of historic documents. Former Commissioner Nancy Schleicher and Deltona’s first and longest-serving Mayor, John Masiarcyzk, have been working to catalogue and preserve these important bits of history.

Our kickoff party will begin at 10 a.m., Jan. 17, at Deltona City Hall, 2345 Providence Blvd. Residents can get a glimpse at Deltona’s history, receive a commemorative pin and light refreshments. The anniversary committee will also unveil a video about Deltona, a website showcasing the anniversary and a student contest related to Deltona’s anniversary year.

This year’s events have been sponsored by Halifax Health/UF Health Medical Center of Deltona. Please come and be a part of our excitement!
