Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood is now in self-quarantine, after a test for the virus yielded a positive finding.
Chitwood was tested Friday morning, July 31, said Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Laura Williams. He received the result a short time later, she added.
“He has very mild symptoms, and he is still able to exercise,” Williams said.
While Chitwood is sidelined with the coronavirus, Chief Deputy Lee Gallagher will be in charge of the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff’s Office.
