Junior Lifeguard Program Tryouts 

11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the DeLand Family YMCA, 761 E. International Speedway Blvd. For youth ages 9-15. To qualify, junior lifeguard candidates must pass a physical-skills test that includes swimming 100 yards within two minutes and 15 seconds, treading water for five minutes, and swimming underwater for 10 feet. After qualifying, junior lifeguards will learn about water safety, and first-aid and lifesaving techniques during a weeklong camp. Cost for a one-week camp: $150.
