A directory coming out in January aims to compile into one location all health care listings throughout Volusia County. The free, 90-plus-page publication will be available to the public and distributed to all hospitals, urgent-care and rehab centers, nursing homes, home-care agencies and physicians’ offices.

“Simplifying health care is the aim of CountyHealthCareGuide.com,” said veteran health care provider Desiree Vilanova. “The site is a compilation of all health care entities and services within the borders of Volusia County.”

Vilanova, a 24-year veteran of the health care industry, is the owner of Tiffany on the River assisted living on Riverside Drive in New Smyrna Beach. She also is co-owner of Althafer Senior Placement Services and CountyHealthCareGuide.com, which she runs with her brother Brett Althafer. The siblings are lifelong residents of New Smyrna Beach and Volusia County.

The printed directory can be used in conjunction with the CountyHealthCareGuide.com website. It will be a quick reference for hospital discharge planners as well as all others who forward on referrals in health care.

“We decided this printed directory was the most efficient way to get folks familiarized with the website and all it offers,” Vilanova said.

Every vendor in the publication, like on the website, gets a free listing with name, address and phone number. Providers can pay for expanded information in each listing.

“It’s basically a mini website for each vendor – they have their own login, enabling them to easily manage it themselves,” Vilanova said.

A layperson can utilize special features of the CountyHealthCareGuide.com website, including searching for a provider by distance, obtaining information about forms of payment and various insurances accepted, and downloading medical, health care and government forms like those of Veterans Affairs, Medicaid and Votran, to name a few.

“The CountyHealthCareGuide.com website was designed specifically as a timesaving, effective and user-friendly source for both the health care provider and the citizens of Volusia County,” Vilanova said. “To our knowledge, nowhere in the country has this been done before with as much health care category inclusion and data.”

Melissa Cole, senior hospice specialist at Kindred at Home Hospice in Daytona Beach, said she and her staff have been using the website.

“CountyHealthCareGuide.com is an excellent referral source for the community as well as health care providers, designed and maintained by a trusted and compassionate organization,” Cole said. “The website is simple to navigate and gives detailed and precise listings of anything health care. I highly recommend it or the printed version to the entire community for any health care needs and questions.”
