David Rauschenberger: Democrats are at fault when Obamacare fails

David Rauschenberger

I remember when President Barack Obama, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid were shoving Obamacare down our throats. My friends supporting socialized medicine were ecstatic.

I had one observation that was mostly ignored. That prediction was that, ultimately, Democrats would blame Republicans for the failure of Obamacare. And I was right. Oh, was I right.

I compared Obamacare to other unsustainable entitlements. And, entitlements live forever. Never forget it. Reducing or eliminating benefits doesn’t sit well with members of the trough.

As I predicted, the “blame-spin” is starting to ooze. I first heard the ultimate spin on Fox News. Some backbencher was trying to sell that Republicans are just as much to blame as Democrats for the coming implosion of Obamacare. She actually said that Democrats resisting change mitigated their blame.

In essence, anything Republicans do will move the yoke to their necks, even if they do nothing. You have to love the way Democrats think.

A recent syndicated editorial in a local paper had the writer appearing to be supporting bipartisan cooperation while unpinning the tail on the Democrat donkey. It was artful.

Republicans didn’t contribute when the Affordable Care Act was passed, and Democrats ignoring the debate to fix things is somehow the same thing.

The writer concluded that failure is everyone’s fault, even if Republicans do nothing. We’ll see if that dog hunts. Cowards never admit their faults, friends.

Here’s a little advice for anyone who wants to listen: Let Obamacare fail. Fund the ACA and Medicaid as the law prescribes. Don’t cut anything. Don’t do anything. Watch it burn.

I’m sorry, friends. Many will be harmed more deeply than if the monstrosity was just thrown out with the garbage. But we need to pin this tail on the donkey. History requires it. It is their fault.

I’ve seen a dim light in the distance growing brighter. Smart Democrats understand that Republicans standing idly by might pin the blame on them. The failure of Obamacare, if allowed to move forward unimpeded, will be an epic failure for one party.

Some Democrats understand that recent electoral defeats are tied inextricably to Obamacare. Some Democrats worry that, in the end, they will “own it.” And they will, but not for the lack of trying by the purveyors of fake news.

The failure of Obamacare will always be the fault of Democrats. If Republicans and President Donald Trump can’t fix it, the failure is in no way their fault. Think …
