Stroma Hurst turns 100

100 years young —  Stroma Hurst, a five-resident of Ridgecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in DeLand, recently celebrated her 100th birthday with some special people. From the left are her daughter, Yvonne Mcfarlane, and church family members Annette McClothchie and Jane Christian. Stroma was born in 1918 in Cuba, and moved to the United States in 1965.

She worked as a nursing assistant. Stroma has five children, Yvonne, Ronald, Angela, Paulette and Auldwin, and 10 grandchildren. She was married to Stanley Hurst for 60 years before he passed. While Stroma said she never expected her life to hit the century mark, she said her faith in God has always carried her through, along with patience and kindness. Her family has always been the center of her life, and she has enjoyed adventures and helping others.
