Gilmore recognized — The community came together June 16 at The Beacon office to celebration Sports Editor Roger Gilmore's 80th birthday. Gilmore has photographed and reported sports in West Volusia for more than 48 years, 31 of them with the DeLand Sun News, and 17 years with The West Volusia Beacon.

Speaking at the birthday party, Mayor Apgar likened Gilmore to a local rock star.

"Everyone knows who Roger is," Apgar said.
