Holiday Gifts From the Garden
The Garden Club of DeLand will have its regular monthly meeting at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at the clubhouse, 875 S. Alabama Ave. in DeLand.
The program will be "Holiday Gifts From the Garden."
Refreshments will be served.
Meetings are open to the public, and prospective members are welcome.

Bill Dreggors to speak to officers' club
The Military Officers Club of Volusia County will have its monthly luncheon and meeting Wednesday, Nov. 4, at Woodland Towers, 113 Chipola Ave. in DeLand.
A social hour will be at 11 a.m., followed by the luncheon meeting at noon.
West Volusia historian Bill Dreggors will be the guest speaker.
This month’s menu is turkey with dressing, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables and pumpkin pie. Lunch costs $11, and the meeting is open to members and prospective members such as military officers on active duty, reserve duty or retired.

Korean War Vets
Korean War Vets of Central Florida Chapter No. 153 and its Ladies Auxiliary will have their monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the American Legion Post No. 127l, 109 Cassadaga Road in Lake Helen.
The Veterans Day Parade and the annual fundraiser will be discussed during the meeting.
All veterans who served during or after the Korean War, in the U.S. or overseas, are invited to attend and enjoy the company of fellow veterans.
Snacks and coffee will be served following the meeting.
The organization is committed to keeping alive the memory of the Forgotten War in Korea 1950-53.

April Gardens Florist owner to speak to DeBary Garden Club
April Gardens Florist Owner Anna France, and manager Lindi Giarratiana, will speak at the DeBary Garden Club's next meeting, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Gateway Park, in the administrative building conference room, at 860 North U.S. Highway 17-92 in DeBary.
The topic will be holiday floral displays
The DeBary Garden Club meets on the first Thursday of each month.
Refreshments will be served. Meetings are free, and new memberships are encouraged.

Potluck luncheon
The New England Club will meet at noon Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Wayne G. Sanborn Activities Center, 751 S. Alabama Ave. in DeLand.
A potluck lunch will be served at noon. Each attendee should bring an individual place setting, and a food item to share, such as a vegetable, salad or dessert.
There will be a teacup auction, a 50-50 drawing, and a mystery gift. Membership costs $5 for the season, and the club meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month, through March.
In November and December, the club will only meet on the second Thursday because of the holidays.

Pinochle Club
The DeLand Pinochle Club began its 2009-10 season with 16 players participating in games in the DeLand Shuffleboard Club room at the Wayne G. Sanborn Activities Center, 751 S. Alabama Ave. in DeLand.
Opening-night high scores were: Ray Leibensperger, 1173; Janet Coleman, 1060; Edith MacDermott, 1058; and Gladys Nixon, 1050.
The Pinochle Club plays through the winter season at 6:30 p.m. Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Defending 2008-09 champion Ray Leibensperger is a three-time season champion, and he joins six other season winners with his name on the Ottie Wordelman Memorial Trophy.
All pinochle players in the DeLand area who play double-deck pinochle are invited to join the club.

Friday dancing
The Sunshine Dance Club has dances 3-5 p.m. Fridays, at the Deltona Community Center, 980 Lakeshore Drive.
Singles and couples are welcome. The cost is $3 per person and includes refreshments.
Live music will be provided: Nov. 6 by Diamond Lil, Nov. 13 by D&D Music Company, and Nov. 20 by Diamond Lil.

Roots and Branches
The Roots and Branches Genealogical Society of West Volusia will have a general meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, in the auditorium of the DeLand Area Public Library, 130 E. Howry Ave.
The society meets monthly at 2 p.m. on the third Sunday of each month, September-June at the library.
The presentation will be by Rev. Dr. A. Dale Stewart, who will talk about his ancestors in Pennsylvania, some of whom were captured or massacred by Native Americans, in 1757.
At 1:00 p.m., prior to the general meeting, there will be a basic genealogy lesson in the conference room of the library.
The public is invited to attend the basic lesson and the general meeting.

Lake Beresford Yacht Club launches fall membership drive
With plans for a new clubhouse completed and on display, the Lake Beresford Yacht Club is looking to the future with a fall membership drive.
All new members, from now until Dec. 31, will receive 75 percent off the regular initiation fee.
Membership in the yacht club offers use of all club facilities, including a screened pool and a boat ramp. Dockage is available at the lowest rates in the area, and members have guest privileges at 36 other yacht clubs around the state of Florida.
The Lake Beresford Yacht Club is located on the western shore of Lake Beresford. Two years ago, fire destroyed the 60-year-old clubhouse, but the club has continued all its social events in an interim building, including dining, monthly parties, and activities such as River Games.
The club is open Tuesday-Sunday.

Sons of Italy celebrate 30th anniversary
The Mike Accardi Lodge of the Sons of Italy will have its semiformal 30th anniversary celebration dinner and dance, at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the lodge, 1270 Doyle Road in Deltona.
Dreams in Motion will provide live music.
The menu will consist of salad, stuffed shells, meatballs, sweet Italian sausage rolls, butter, panicotta and coffee.
The required donation is $20 per person, and attendees should bring their own beverages. Setups will be available for purchase.
The event is open to the public.
Dress is semiformal, and those attending should not wear T-shirts, jeans or shorts.

AWP potluck dinner
The Association for Widowed Persons will meet at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church of DeLand, 724 N. Woodland Blvd.
The meeting will be the club's annual potluck dinner. Members with last names that begin with A-F are asked to bring meat, or meat casseroles, G-L are asked to bring salads, M-R are asked to bring desserts, and S-Z are asked to bring vegetables.
Each dish needs an accompanying index card listing the ingredients, for members who are on special diets.
Doors open at 2 p.m.
There will not be an after-meeting dinner.

The rebirth of a coastal marsh
The Volusia-Flagler Sierra Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, in the University of Central Florida's University Center Building 150, 1200 W. International Speedway Blvd. in Daytona Beach.
The program, "The Rebirth of a Coastal Marsh," will be presented by Paul Haydt, overseer of the St. Johns River Water Management District's Northern Coastal Basin.
Haydt will talk about North Peninsula State Park, which is part of a larger salt-marsh restoration project to return coastal spoil areas back to healthy, productive salt-marsh habitats.
The meeting is free and open to the public, and the meeting place is handicapped-accessible.

Steve Daniels to play November concert
Steve Daniels, a keyboard artist, will be the Volusia Music Club's featured entertainer for the club's November concert.
The concert will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, in the Fellowship Hall of First Congregational United Church of Christ, 259 W. University Ave. in Orange City.
The concert is open to the public for a donation of $3.

Frank Vardaros Orchestra
ARK presents the Frank Vardaros Jazz Orchestra, a 16-piece big-band-style jazz ensemble, as part of the DeLand Fall Festival of the Arts, 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in the Harwood Center, 319 W. Wisconsin Ave.
The concert will raise funds for DeLand's Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and Gopher Tortoise Hospital.
Concert tickets cost $12 for adults $10 for students with IDs. Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card.
