Harry Byard will lead the seminar, as attendees express their psychic energy and healing energy through painting. The class costs $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
A video course, The Keys to Inner Peace, which teaches techniques of meditation, taught by students of Maharaji, will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 11. There is no charge for this course.

Donate to help children
First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of DeLand will observe Blankets and Tools Sunday on June 15. A $5 donation will provide a refugee child with a warm blanket, and $15 can provide a hoe, a shovel and a rake for a rural family. Larger donations can help as follows: $100 buys fishing nets and equipment for a village cooperative; $150 can shelter disaster victims in a family-sized tent; $250 can provide a sewing machine for a widow learning a trade to support her family; $5,000 can drill and install a clean-water well for a village. All offerings are sent to Church World Service, P.O. Box 968, Elkhart, IN 46515. Doris Wadd is in charge of the church observance.
Dorothy Ashton will be accompanying a group of children to Genesis Camp, June 8-14, at the Silver Springs Camp and Conference Center.
Disaster brings change
The Rev. Jack Ford will once again take the Mosaic Unitarian Universalist Church pulpit at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 8, in Orange City. His topic will be “The Shaking of the Foundation.”
When an earthquake hits or disaster strikes, all of those solid foundations upon which our lives have been grounded suddenly become suspect. Survivors who recover from the shock of loss often find a new perspective on life, and have a deeper appreciation for what really matters, says Ford. Using the example of Albert Schweitzer's life and thought, Ford's talk will explore the essential elements of faith, and the foundations upon which spiritual lives are built.
A Caregivers Support Group will meet at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6. For more information, call facilitator Judy Raymond at (386) 734-0759.
A marketplace of old
St. Jude's Episcopal Church in Orange City invites the public to come to a Jerusalem Marketplace 6-8 p.m. Monday-Friday, June 23-27, at the church. Attendees will find the church transformed into a bustling town center as was found in Jerusalem during the time of Christ.
Each day, children and adults can join small groups, who signify one of the 12 tribes of Israel, to sing and explore traditional family life during these times. Groups can visit a synagogue school, play authentic games and sample Middle-Eastern snacks, become apprentices in the pottery shop or make dreidels in the carpentry shop.
There is no charge to attend the marketplace; donations will be gladly accepted.
In addition, the church is having a yard sale 7 a.m.-noon Friday-Saturday, June 13-14. Proceeds will benefit the church's youth who will be attending Camp Wingmann summer programs.
For more information, call (386) 775-6200.
Youth programs continue
The Youth Program at First United Methodist Church of DeLand will remain in full swing throughout the summer months. The Wednesday-night program will meet at 3:30 p.m. in the Education Building for fellowship, food, worship and hanging out. Other activities will include trips to the beach, a service project and a mission trip. For more information, call Youth Director D.J. Anderson at the church, or visit the youth Web site at www.overflow-uth.com.
The youths' service project will be a free carwash 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, June 12. No donations will be accepted even if offered, as this is an outreach to the community. It is in keeping with the message that Jesus washed away our sins for free. The carwash will be in the parking lot of the Life Enrichment Center.
Congratulations to the following confirmands who completed their classes and joined the church as full members May 18: Courtney Crump, Edwin Cruz, Randi Doan, Nicholas Lloyd, Amanda Lloyd, Heanna Puertas, Timmy Schroyer, Erin Wagner and Haylie Walker.
June 8 is Diaper Sunday. All those attending church services that day are encouraged to bring a package of diapers to be distributed to the Methodist Children's Home Foster Care Program in Enterprise. The 8:15 a.m. service is still leading with the most packages (27) donated again last month. The total collected from all services was 46.
