The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the Volusia County Medical Examiner's handling of the Marlon Brown case.
An Oct. 17 letter from the FDLE's Medical Examiners Commission Staff Director Margaret A. Edwards to Brown family attorney Benjamin Crump states in part, "We have contacted the Office of the District 7 Medical Examiner in order to obtain information from their files in this case, and we will keep you apprised of our investigation into this matter."
Krystal Brown, family representative and former wife of Marlon Brown, and Spring Hill community members continue to ask questions about Marlon Brown's death under the wheels of a DeLand police cruiser May 8. Rookie Officer James Harris, who was driving the police vehicle, was fired May 31.
Krystal Brown's complaint against the Medical Examiner's Office states that office misrepresented facts about Marlon Brown's death. The dash-cam video from Harris' car tells a different story than the medical examiner's report, Krystal Brown said, and that's why she made it public.
