A trio of masked robbers smashed the front door of a DeBary convenience store and grabbed 148 cartons of cigarettes worth nearly $9,000, authorities said.
The robbery happened around 3:30 a.m. Sept. 26 at Lil Sammy's Citgo, 600 S. Charles R. Beall Blvd., Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught reported.
Deputies, called to the scene by the store alarm, discovered the glass front doors had been shattered.
"The store's surveillance video showed that three masked men had used a light-colored mid-1990s Dodge Dakota extended-cab pickup truck to ram the doors," he said. "The men quickly went inside and loaded about 148 cartons of cigarettes into garbage bags. They then jumped into the truck and fled."
The men, who had their faces covered with masks or cloths, wore long-sleeved shirts. They appeared to be in their early- to mid-20s. The damage they caused to the store is estimated at $30,000, Haught said.
Investigators are asking anyone who recognizes the vehicle to call the Sheriff's Office at 386-668-3830 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at 888-277-TIPS, or texting "TIP231 plus the message" to CRIMES.
Tipsters will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
