With all the elation and excitement of a homecoming weekend, Bethune-Cookman University opened its Deltona campus.
Educators, business leaders and other local officials gathered Aug. 19 to celebrate the grand opening of the private university's Deltona satellite campus at 1555 Saxon Blvd.
"This is a great day, not only for Bethune-Cookman University, but for this county," Bethune-Cookman President Edison O. Jackson told the crowd. "Thank you for welcoming us to your city."
The occasion culminated months of work by BCU and city leaders to establish a university satellite midway between Orlando and Daytona Beach for those seeking to pursue a degree, without having to drive a long distance to attend classes.
