Four years of high hopes will crash down at the end of September, when the Florida Museum for Women Artists in DeLand closes. The struggle to pay the bills has finally become too much for the young museum, its president said.
The museum opened with the vision of enhancing DeLand's cultural corridor, which includes museums at Stetson University and the Museum of Florida Art at 600 N. Woodland Blvd.
Board members plan to attend the DeLand City Commission meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, to request that the building leases be transferred to the Museum of Florida Art, which has expressed interest in the facility.
