UPDATED 10:15 A.M. TUESDAY, JUNE 4 — The Florida Highway Patrol released the name of the man killed in this crash. He was 71-year-old Douglas Wojick of Daytona Beach.
PREVIOUSLY REPORTED — A man driving a trike motorcycle is dead and Florida Highway Patrol troopers are trying to figure out how the crash that killed him came about. The accident happened in the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 92 near Red John Drive at 10:05 this morning, Monday, June 3.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a van driven by an Ormond Beach man struck the back of the trike, or three-wheeled, motorcycle "for an unknown reason," ejecting the driver, a 71-year-old Daytona Beach man, from the motorcycle. The motorcyclist died. His name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Troopers are still trying to determine in which lane or emergency lane the trike motorcycle was traveling just prior to the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
Lanes were closed as troopers worked, a witness told The Beacon. The highway is clear now, according to the Highway Patrol's website.
