Cathy Gallagher, RN, a 16-year employee of Halifax Health, was named the 2013 Employee of the Year during Halifax Health’s Employee Appreciation Banquet at the Hilton Daytona Beach Resort on May 14. A hospice community access liaison for Halifax Health – Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, Gallagher was chosen to receive Employee of the Year by her co-workers at Halifax Health.
Gallagher began her career with Halifax Health – Hospice in 1996 as a certified nursing assistant. She went on to become a registered nurse and began working for the Halifax Health – Center for Oncology. She later returned to Halifax Health – Hospice. She regularly volunteers her time at other not-for-profit facilities that focus on indigent and end of life care.
Gallagher was in the running for the honor with 11 other Halifax Health employees, who like her, were previously named Employee of the Month. Those employees were: Cher Philio, Halifax Health – Healthy Communities, Healthy Start; Mark Walds, Environmental Services; Matt Hoffman, Halifax Health – EmployMed; Joan Lewine, RN, Information Technology; Susan Weiland, RN, Halifax Health – Center for Oncology, Inpatient; Steven Burtner, RN, Center for Cardiology, CPCU; Lawrence Burdine, Laundry & Linen Services; Jody Corish, Respiratory; Antoun Matar, Corporate Accounting & Finance; Paula Cox, RN, Post Anesthesia Care Unit; and Bernard Hardwick, Food & Nutrition.
Other employees recognized during the banquet included:
Inpatient Quality Caregiver of the Year: Debbie Fortier, RN, charge nurse, Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach.
Outpatient Quality Caregiver of the Year: Robin Lane, radiology multimodality therapist, Halifax Heath – Center for Oncology.
Allied Health Quality Caregiver of the Year: Brian Spies, reservation specialist for Halifax Health – Center for Family & Sports Medicine.
