The lanky Oviedo Hagerty Huskies pulled away from the DeLand Bulldogs here Tuesday night, Feb. 19, in The Doghouse in the final 1:31 to claim the regional semifinal victory, 66-52.

The Huskies improved to 23-5, and left the 'Dogs at 22-8. The victors have now reached the elite eight and will face the Wekiva Mustangs on Saturday, Feb. 23, for a spot in the Class 8A Final Four in the Lakeland Center. All the Final Four teams will be playing there Feb. 26-March 2.

The other teams in the elite eight are Jupiter, Deerfield Beach, Orlando University, Tampa Wharton, Hialeah Gardens, and South Miami.

Against the Huskies, the 'Dogs stayed pretty much within striking range, trailing 18-1 at the end of the first quarter and 30-23 at the half. The visitors padded their lead to 16 in the third quarter with a 48-32 lead.

DeLand battled back in the final stanza, narrowing the spread to eight with 3:06 to play at 54-46. It was 8 points again with 1:31 remaining when the visitors iced the contest.

Logan Hovey and Nick Brizendue spearheaded the attack for the Huskies with 23 and 19 points, respectively, while Dylan Magell added 13, plus the team was tough off the glass.

Game-high scoring honors went to DeLand's Monolito Hamilton as the 5-10 spark plug poured in 24 points and was the only 'Dog in double figures. A great crowd was on hand for the season finale here, and was into the game from start to finish.
