Beautiful birthday gift — Noah Miller, 8, celebrated his birthday this year by asking for people to give him nonperishable food items in lieu of gifts. Noah then donated the 69 items to Outside the Gates food pantry.

Instead of asking for toys or video games, Noah Miller, a second-grade student at Woodward Avenue Elementary School in DeLand, asked friends and family to give him food for his eighth birthday.

He collected 69 food items and donated them to Outside the Gates food pantry.

Outside the Gates is a community outreach program of Lake Helen United Methodist Church.

Outside the Gates was established in 2006, and serves people in need who live in the Lake Helen and Cassadaga communities.

The pantry reported that Noah’s generosity helped with restocking the pantry shelves for February’s food distribution.

“It was lovely,” said Janet Argenbright of Lake Helen United Methodist Church.

For more information about the pantry, call 386-228-2345.
