The Stetson Hatter men's basketball team ran into a buzz saw Jan. 25 in Fort Myers, when the hosting Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles placed all five starters in double figures en route to a 96-65 Atlantic Sun Conference victory.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Hats, leaving them at 6-3 in the ASC, and tied with FGCU for second place, with the Jacksonville Dolphins atop the ladder at 6-2.
Stetson will return to the court on the road with the Dolphins Thursday, Jan. 31, and then face the University of North Florida in the Gateway City Saturday, Feb. 2.
The Eagles took the lead on the first bucket of the game, and never trailed, working ahead, 48-29, at the half. They tacked on another 48 points during the second stanza.
For the Hats, Chris Perez led the way with 21 points, while Adam Pegg recorded another double-double, with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Joel Naburgs dished out six assists.
Sherwood Brown paced the balanced attack of the hosts, with 21 points and seven rebounds. Adding to the triumph were Chase Fieler, 19; Bernard Thompson, 14; Brett Comer, 13; and Eric McKnight, 10.
