Whole lot of smoke — A relatively small blaze can produce smoke that, from a distance, seems like a much bigger fire over a wider area. Such was the case today, Jan. 23, when a crushing machine at DeLand's Central Florida Recycling Center overheated and ignited flammable material close by. No one was hurt in the incident, according to the DeLand Fire Department.

No one was injured in a blaze that broke out at the Central Florida Recycling Center in DeLand today, Jan. 23.
Volusia County firefighters provided mutual aid to the DeLand Fire Department to battle the blaze at 906 S. Garfield Ave.
DeLand responded to the call about 2 p.m. Wednesday, according to Deputy DeLand Fire Chief Ron Snowberger.
