Team Deltona — Members of Team Deltona — who are city firefighters and their spouses — accept the traveling trophy from the American Lung Association for winning the team challenge in the Fight for Air in Orlando. The challenge included wearing 50 pounds of gear and doing a timed climb up 25 floors in the Orlando Bank of America building. At center, Deltona City Commissioner (and retired firefighter) Chris Nabicht holds the trophy and Mayor John Masiarczyk holds the American Lung Association certificate. Team Deltona members are firefighter Jason Pratt and his wife, Heather; firefighter Connor Beverly and his wife, Hannah; Lt. Daniel Bowen; firefighter Michael Drew; driver and engineer Kathy Christman; firefighters John Fleemin, Terry Freeman, Ryan Hanley, Tony Jacinto and C.J. Johnson; retired Lt. Rick Paine; firefighter Aaron Quarberg; Lt. John Sabia; and Lt. Josh Sievert; and City Commissioners Zenaida Denizac, Webster Barnaby, Heidi Herzberg, Nancy Schleicher and Fred Lowry; along with Local 2913 President John Viccaro and Betsy Sheffield of the American Lung Association. Deltona firefighters proved they “kick ash” at the Fight for Air in Orlando, by taking first place in the firefighters division.
Fight for Air is an American Lung Association fundraiser.
At the November event at the Bank of America building in Orlando, the 14 Team Deltona members displayed their toughness by climbing 25 stories in the building. The team was made up of 12 firefighters and two of their spouses.
Team Deltona members donned an additional 50 pounds of gear for the stairway climb — full protective gear with air packs.
The Deltona Fire Fighters Association sponsored the group, and raised $1,925 for the American Lung Association.
Team Deltona was presented with the Fight for Air traveling trophy at a recent meeting of the Deltona City Commission.
