The victim of a Jan. 1 fatal shooting near DeLand has been identified as 25-year-old Antwan Harris of Deltona. Very little information is available about what happened to him.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said officers from the DeLand Police Department originally were dispatched to Florida Hospital-DeLand Tuesday night, Jan. 1, after being notified that a gunshot victim had been taken there.
Harris was pronounced dead at the hospital at 11:57 p.m. Tuesday.
From two witnesses who had driven Harris to the hospital, the DeLand officers learned the shooting had occurred in the 900 block of South Parsons Avenue, outside city limits, the Sheriff's Office said.
The DeLand Police Department turned the case over to the Sheriff's Office at about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday. The Sheriff's Office set up a crime scene on South Parsons Avenue, from Green Street to West Beresford Avenue.
The Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the shooting.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 386-736-5999, or to call Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) 277-TIPS.
Residents can also text tips by texting “TIP231, plus the message” to CRIMES. Tipsters who provide information to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and may qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.

I will now break this down for those few on this post that appear to be uneducated.
If we speak negatively about things, people, situations==we will reap negative in due time.
So, with that being said, I Tonee am praying that this case is solved. All judgement is banished and the facts show themselves. I do not know this man, but I know he has a family and friends. Was he a victim or villian? I do not know, nor do I care. He was murdered in my hometown and that ways heavy on my heart.
Also, I attended Woodward Elm, George Marks, South Western (7th grade cntr), DeLand Middle and DeLand High School. I have nothing bad to say about any of these schools. Nor, of the neighboorhoods they are in. These neighbohoods are where people live, where families congregate. Many of these families are good people. They just happen to live near some people that are not so good. Many upscale neighborhoods/subdivisions have violent or misbehaved individuals too. Stop throwing judgement of what "could've been" going on until all the facts are produced. By the way, I am White, and I do NOT care if Mr. Harris is purple. He is gone; his life and his family are entitled to respect in the United States of America. At one time we all were "imported" here. Well, except our Native Americans.
Also, I have had many friends who have lived near or on Parsons, Candle Light Oaks, Spring Hill, Trails West, BrandyWine and several gated communities. I will gladly drive or walk My "white" self into any of those neighborhoods. Crime happens anywhere and everywhere; even at Churches, Kingdom Halls, Mass, Synagogues, Temples, Etc. I hope any negative person gets my point....
Which is==Be Nice, Be Slow to Anger, & leave judgement up to "Your" Higher Power
Thanks for reading My view,,Ta Ta:)
There are good parts of town, and parts of town that have more crime in them. Like it or not that's just the way it is. Parsons is a bad area, just like Candlelight is. Not all places in Deland are equal crime wise.
Let me ask you this... Would you:
1.) Feel safer walking down the road in Glenwood, or a nicer neighbor hood in the Brandywine area after dark,
or
2.) Feel safer walking down the road on Parsons, Vhooris, or in Candlelight subdivision after dark?
Yeah that's what I thought.

You should "listen" more the next time you go to a church. To me the guy doesn't look tough and he doesn't look weak, he looks "black" which I assume is the reason for all the negative comments. Can you people ever be the least bit honest?
God must be so proud of you!
My prayers to his family and friends. and to the negative commentors.
Maybe it's experience.
Just another good brother gone bad. Cryin' shame.
