Ronald Joseph Lundy delayed his appearance for a few days, and became West Volusia's first baby born in 2013.
His due date was Dec. 29, 2012. Instead, Ronald Joseph was born at 10:24 a.m. today, Jan. 1, at Florida Hospital-DeLand.
The New Year's baby is the first child of Earl and Liz Lundy of DeLand.
"It's pretty neat," Dad said.
Earl Lundy said the possibility of having the New Year's first baby was mentioned during his wife's labor, but it wasn't a prime concern.
"We just figured if that was what was going to happen, that was what was going to happen," he said.
Mom and baby were doing fine this evening.
Ronald Joseph Lundy weighed 8 pounds even at birth, and measured 21 inches.
His paternal grandmother, Naomi Lundy, lives in Eustis. Maternal grandparents Geneva and Joe Oakes live in Ormond Beach.
