Gibbs/Rotary Classic on tap

The 12th annual Gus Gibbs/DeLand Rotary Club Boys' Basketball Christmas Classic tipoff is scheduled, with the first four games today, Thursday, Dec. 27, in the DeLand High School gym, and a like number of contests on tap for Friday, Dec. 28, and Saturday, Dec. 29.

The lineup for opening day has Orlando Olympia vs. New Smyrna Beach, 3 p.m.; the Delray Beach Village Academy vs. Nation Ford High School, Fort MIll, S.C., 4:30 p.m.; Orlando East River vs. Deltona Trinity Christian, 6 p.m.; and the hosting DeLand Bulldogs vs. St. Georges from the Bahamas, 7:30 p.m.

The pairings for Friday will depend on the outcome of the opening-day action, but the times of the games will be the same.

On Saturday, the game time again will be the same; however, each game will be special. Fifth place goes at 3 p.m.; the consolation championship is set for 4:30 p.m.; third place will be up for grabs at 6 p.m.; and the championship is ticketed for 7:30 p.m.

There will be team awards along the way, as well as an All-Classic Team and Most Valuable Player.
