Residents of Whisperwood Manufactured Home Community in DeLand had a holiday treat Dec. 23 when 17 decorated golf carts adorned with lights, tinsel and cheer made their way through the streets of the neighborhood.
Diane McConnell, president of Whisperwood's social organization, said the procession was a lot of fun for the residents, who waved to the passing carts and sang along to Christmas songs.
"We had a blast," McConnell said.
McConnell said the special parade was the brainchild of 89-year-old resident Dot Smith. Resident Christine Reddin organized the event.
Don Banister was awarded the prize for prettiest cart. Randy Alderman's cart won "most original." There was a tie for "most festive" cart between Bruce Wagner and Maurine and Don Hesketh.
Residents are looking forward to repeating the gala parade at Christmastime in 2013.
