The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 42-year-old DeLand woman whose body was found Tuesday morning inside her car. The victim has been identified as Bonnie Sue Burns.
The victim was found dead inside her 2001 Ford Escort along the side of Magnolia Road in the Daytona Park Estates subdivision just northeast of DeLand. A friend who had been expecting Burns at her house became concerned when she didn’t show up and went out looking for her. The friend alerted the Sheriff’s Office at 7:30 a.m. after finding the victim’s vehicle on the side of the road, with Burns dead inside. While the death is being treated as suspicious, the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on Wednesday to determine the cause.
The Sheriff’s Office’s Major Case Unit is investigating.
