Body in St. Johns River identified, cause of death 'suspicious'

Today, Friday, Dec. 14, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office identified the body of a man found floating in the St. Johns River Wednesday. The dead man is 67-year-old Robert J. Remus Sr. of DeBary.

A boater found Remus' body around noon Wednesday, Dec. 12, a bit north of the Highbanks Marina, and flagged down a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission boat. The Volusia County Sheriff's Office was then brought in to assist with the recovery of Remus' body and the subsequent investigation.

A Sheriff's Office report said Remus had been living in a trailer at Highbanks Marina & Camp Resort.

The cause of death has not been determined. The Sheriff's Office Major Case Unit is continuing to investigate the case as a suspicious death.
