The City of Deltona is putting on quite a shindig to celebrate the holiday season.

It will start with the city’s second annual nighttime parade, at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15. This year’s theme is “Storybook Christmas.” The parade will travel up Providence Boulevard from Fort Smith Boulevard to Deltona City Hall.

Parade participants will compete for first-, second- and third-place prizes. An overall winner will also be selected.

City of Deltona staff member Wendy Jackson enjoys the floats most of all.

“I love to see people’s creativity come alive,” Jackson said.

The grand marshals for Deltona’s Christmas parade this year will be the Philadelphia Union Major League Soccer team. The team will be represented by one player and team mascot Bimbo the Bear.

Saul Saenz, of Central Florida News 13, will take a break from reporting Volusia County news to serve as master of ceremonies of the parade.

The city is looking forward to a great turnout.

“Last year was really well-attended, and we are expecting more than 100 floats this year,” Jackson said.

Another feature of the holiday gala will be food trucks along the 2.2-mile parade route and at the City Hall complex.

Children are encouraged to bring their letters to Santa. The letters will be collected by Santa’s elves along the parade route. Santa will be available at City Hall after the parade for photos.
