Volusia County Schools' Sinfonia Orchestra will present a special sneak-preview concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, in the auditorium at University High School, 1000 W. Rhode Island Ave. in Orange City. The event is free and open to the public.
The performance is in preparation for the orchestra's invitation to perform at the 66th annual Midwest International Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, Dec. 19-22.
Under the direction of Clara Knotts, the Sinfonia Orchestra is a select ensemble consisting primarily of students from University High, Galaxy Middle and Deltona Middle schools.
The orchestra was chosen from more than 400 applicants from around the world to perform at the Midwest Clinic through a rigorous audition process. They are only one of three ensembles representing the state of Florida, and they are the first group ever from Volusia County Schools to be selected.
The Midwest Clinic is an international music conference attended annually by more than 16,000 music educators, conductors, professional musicians, music publishers, and music merchants from all 50 states and more than 30 countries.
For more information, call Dr. Monty R. Musgrave at 386-734-7190, ext. 20682.

Ms. Knotts has been the role model for my son for almost five years and I cannot thank her enough for the support, education and encouragement that she has offered to him throughout this time.
The Orchestra program means so much to our children and their families and we sincerely hope that it will be allowed to continue operating for years and years to come.
A deep and sincere thank you to Ms. Knotts, her family, Dr. Musgrave and everyone else that made this possible.
