Editor's note: This letter was written before the Wolves' Nov. 25 victory, which placed them in the Pop Warner Super Bowl line-up.
Dear Community Partner:
My name is Cameron Robinson, Head Coach, and I want to introduce you to the West Volusia Wolves Jr. Midget Pop Warner Football Team. This football team is comprised of 22 young men who reside in Deltona, DeBary and Orange City.
Of the 22 young men on this team, seven of the players are considered Pop Warner National Little Scholar All-Americans. That means they have an overall academic averages of 98 percent or higher.
The West Volusia Wolves Jr. Midget Pop Warner Football Team is on the brink of one of the largest athletic and team accomplishments our community and county has experienced. After a strong and successful 9-0 season, this committed group of boys have continued to play with their hearts on the field and advance in their playoff season.
After completing an undefeated regular season, the team went on to win The East Coast Conference Championship. The team then went on to beat the best team from Orange, Lake, Osceola, Seminole, Hillsborough, Polk, Manatee and Pasco Counties. Then the team beat the defending national champions from Jensen Beach, who represented the South Florida Teams. Now, the team is playing in the Southeast Regional Championship this coming Saturday in St. Cloud against the team who is representing the North Florida Teams.
Upon victory this Saturday, the team will have the once-in-a-lifetime chance opportunity to advance to the Pop Warner National Super Bowl held at Disney World Dec. 1-8. Accomplished Pop Warner football teams travel from all over the country for the honor to compete among the best students and athletes that this country has to offer.
We, WV parents and community volunteers, work with dedication to organize the children in our league to remain active, study hard and work with others to meet and achieve desired goals. This organization and team builds strong character which will help mold each player into successful adults and community members. We are honored to help them along this path!
We are reaching out to you to be an advocate for our boys and allow them to experience this opportunity to its fullest potential, along with the other communities across the country that are doing the same for their athletes.
The cost for the players to attend and participate in the events will be approximately $750 per player. Disney World and ESPN work together to create a great event and experience for the players. While we understand that this is a lot of money, we also realize that NO other team from Volusia County has ever made it to the National Championships at Disney World.
Your involvement and sponsorship will make the difference! Thank you for your support in helping us reach our goals, which in turn help build a stronger community!
