Carnival fun

Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Deltona is having a carnival.

There will be rides, games and plenty of food 5-10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, and Friday, Nov. 30; 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1; and 1-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2.

Parking and admission are free; however, to ride the rides or play the games, a wristband must be purchased for $15 in advance or for $20 at the carnival.

For more information, call 386-574-2131.

Christmas bazaars

St. Peter Catholic Church in DeLand will have a Christmas Bazaar 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2. All proceeds will go toward works of mercy in the community.

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of DeLand will have a Christmas Bazaar 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 1. Crafts, gift items, baked goods and more will be available for purchase, as will a pulled-pork lunch for $5 and drinks for $1.

Hanging of the Greens

First Presbyterian Church of DeLand will celebrate the Hanging of the Greens service 12:15-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25.

Based on an English tradition, the service falls on the first Sunday in Advent, when the church sanctuary is decorated with evergreen wreaths, boughs or trees that symbolize the new and everlasting life brought through Jesus, and signals the beginning of the Christmas season.

An Advent Celebration Workshop will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in the church’s fellowship hall.
