The Stetson Hatter women's basketball team split a pair of games over the weekend Nov. 16-18, and were looking ahead to home action in the Edmunds Center today, Tuesday, Nov. 20, and Sunday, Nov. 25, with Bethune-Cookman and Ball State, respectively.
The next home game for the Hats will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4. Two road games will follow before SU is back home for back-to-back games with Georgia Southern and the University of North Carolina-Asheville.
Stetson won its first game of the season, padding an 8-point halftime lead in the second half to an 88-67 victory over the Florida A&M Rattlerettes.
Victoria McGowan paced the Hats with a double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds. She also dished out seven assists, and had five steals. Jama Sharp added 18 points, Shanasa Sanders accounted for 15 points and seven rebounds, and Cherisse Burris chipped in with 12 points.
For the visitors, Jasmine Grice and Kim Sparkman had 19 and 18 points, respectively, while Patrice Collie grabbed 10 rebounds.
On the road Sunday, Nov. 18, the undefeated Florida State Seminoles held the Hats to 19 first-half points en route to their third win, 76-44. The Hats trailed, 19-13, at one point in the first half, when the hosts went on a 23-6 scoring run for a 42-19 spread at the intermission.
Sanders and Burris had 9 and 8 points, respectively, for the Hats. McGowan was credited with five rebounds. Natasha Howard and Chelsea Davis had 23 and 22 points, respectively, in the win, while Chasity Clayton pulled down 10 rebounds, with the hosts holding a 43-21 edge in that department.
