Peter Colangelo of DeLand won $1 million in the Florida Lottery’s 25th anniversary edition Millionaire scratch-off game.
Colangelo purchased his winning ticket at the South DeLand Publix, Lottery officials said, and chose to receive his winnings in a lump sum of $853,264.64.
Colangelo is no stranger to winning in the state-sponsored lottery’s scratch-off games. He previously won $10,000 on one ticket, won $1,000 three other times, and has claimed several $500 scratch-off prizes, Lottery officials said.
He has a method.
“When I see a penny on the ground, I pick it up, buy a scratch-off ticket and use the lucky penny to scratch the ticket,” Colangelo said.
He isn’t sure whether he or the coins are lucky, but is happy with the results, according to the Florida Lottery.
