posted Nov 17, 2012 - 10:25:08am
The 2012 football season came crashing down on the DeLand High School Bulldogs Nov. 16 in Spec Martin Memorial Stadium, when the Seminole High School 'Noles of Sanford posted a 26-12 victory in the quarterfinals of the Class 8A Regionals.
The 'Noles were in such command that the 'Dogs didn't hit the end zone until there was 1:18 left in the game.
The 'Noles next face the Neptune Beach Fletcher Senators, who outlasted the Lake Brantley Patriots, 24-21.
It was a tough night for Volusia County teams, as only two of the six in regional play were victorious.
Daytona Beach Mainland bested Lakeland's Lake Gibson, 49-42, in Class 6A, while the Warner Christian Eagles pounded Winter Garden Foundation, 62-0, in Class 1A.
Other teams that tasted defeat were New Smyrna Beach in Class 6A, bowing to Winter Haven, 24-20; Atlantic in Class 7A bested by Tampa Robinson, 41-8; and Deltona Trinity Christian in Class 1A downed 38-12 by Lake Mary Prep.
Editor's note: More on these games will in our in print edition following the Thanksgiving holidays.
