The Matt Burke Band, an up-and-coming "Soulcoustic Beach Rock" group, will return to its roots for a special performance at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 21, at DeLand Artisan Inn, 215 S. Woodland Blvd. in Downtown DeLand.

The band was founded by Matt Burke and Brue Baker more than a decade ago, when the two were introduced by a mutual friend at Stetson University. Their sound is influenced by everything from funk to classic rock to reggae to jazz.

Today, Burke and Baker live hundreds of miles apart — Burke in Chicago, and Baker in Florida. But in a creative approach to growing a large fan base, the two have built backup bands to perform in both locations and beyond, blasting soulful, relatable tunes like White Collar Blues and beachy, steel-drum-tinged songs like The Weekend War in nightclubs and music venues across the East Coast.

“That’s the beauty of being a two-piece at our core, we have the ability to play in any configuration, from a solo act to a full five piece, and we’ve made connections with musicians across the country who really know their instrument and can just jump in and just play the part," Burke said.

To read recent news, blog posts and bios for the Matt Burke Band, and to soak in some truly soulful and distinctive music, visit www.MattBurkeBand.com.

Tickets to the show cost $5 and will be available at the door.
