The DeLand junior-varsity Bullpups cruised to their fifth victory in six starts this season with a 42-6 win over their Deltona counterparts on the road Oct. 10.
The ’Pups are scheduled to close out their season at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in Spec Martin Memorial Stadium hosting the Orange City University Titan JVs.
DeLand broke loose with a three-touchdown performance in the first quarter, and then tacked on single markers in the other three periods.
Stevionte Bruten opened the scoring, romping 61 yards for the 6-pointer. Kendrick Hamilton followed with his first of six extra-point kicks.
Still in the first stanza, quarterback Quinn Dawson connected with Stephan Bukar on a 62-yard pass-and-run scoring play. Later, Dawson tallied on an 8-yard run for a 21-0 lead.
The second quarter found David Sherbert hitting the end zone from 3 yards out, with the Wolves picking up their TD on a short pass just seconds before the intermission.
Dawson found Hagan O'Neil on the business end of a scoring pass in the third period. The scoring was capped much the way it started, with Bruten rambling 75 yards for the TD. That gave him 136 yards on just two carries. Dawson completed five of seven passes for 122 yards.
On the defensive side for the ’Pups, it was Alex Edwards and Jarique Williams with pass interceptions. Cole Mustardo was credited with seven tackles.
