ORANGE CITY — The DeLand Bulldog cross-country squad split the group over the weekend, with the top runners going to Tallahassee, while the others and the Lady Bulldogs participated in the Orange City University Titan Trail Cross-Country Meet.
In Tallahassee, the Florida State University Cross-Country Invitational at Apalachee Regional Park, the 5K Gold Elite event, featured more than 20 teams with 180 runners. The winner was Andres Arroya, Orlando Colonial, 15:19.8. DeLand junior Ken Pineiro was 13th, with the national elite time of 15:58.5.
At the Titan Trail event, there were 12 boys' varsity teams with 94 runners. 1. Spruce Creek 37. 3. University 72. 8. Pine Ridge 211. 10. Taylor 230, and DeLand 317. The overall winner was University's C.J. Westfall, 17:19.6.
Other top finishers were Pine Ridge 20, Brandon Carroll, 19:23.7; Taylor 31, Conner Schuler, 19:42.8; and DeLand 43, Bryan Rodriguez, 20:18.1.
There were 10 girls' varsity teams with 81 runners. 1. Spruce Creek 66. 4. DeLand 92. University 99. 7. Taylor 262, and Pine Ridge 299. The winner was Elizabeth Murray, Seabreeze, 20:40.4.
Other top finishers were DeLand, 7. Alexander Morrison, 22.12.2; University, 5. Christen Daniels, 21:21.8; Taylor, 34. Angie Torres, 25:27.3; and Pine Ridge, 40. Amanda Stone, 25:56.3.
