Deltona mall?

By Al Everson
BEACON STAFF WRITER

City officials are working to enable a businessman to fill one of the biggest empty retail spaces in Deltona. A proposal to open a mini-mall in the now-defunct Winn-Dixie at 1200 Deltona Blvd. awaits further work at City Hall. The mini-mall, as currently envisioned, would not be legal under the city’s code because it would be an indoor flea market. The space would be partitioned for different merchants and would have to meet other regulatory standards, the City Commission agreed.

“You don’t want it looking like Ali Baba’s and the 40 thieves,” said Mayor John Masiarczyk.

Deltona Mini Mall | posted May 6, 2011 - 10:12:25pm
Maybe individuals don't understand the concept of a mini mall. The Mini Mall will help the community , this helps people place there items for sale ie crafters, jewlery, antiques, collectibles, clothes, jewlery, furniture, & on & on... In this economy so many small businesses are closing overhead is to much... This concept is wonderful for the area with so many stores vacant. It will help the plaza and the economy. It is a Consignment Superstore. Not a fleamarket. The facility is under air and will have a central cashier area.

A MINI MALL IS A STEP ABOVE ALL THE GAMBLING INTERNET SITES THAT THE CITY APPROVED.

"Does Deltona not want to progress beyond what it is?"

Are you kidding, this what Deltona is and always will be.

The real city is Orange City - heck even Enterprise is more of a City than Deltona will ever be. It is the South Florida way of thinking.

you're talking about a city that, when JM was mayor before, had a painting of a Winn-Dixie store hanging in City Hall

Why not it sure beats sitting empty. With so many businesses going out of business I am for anything that builds a business. I too would love an Aldi's but I don't see Aldi's or any other store jumping into help so why not an indoor flea market.

Oh for heaven's sake! Here I was thinking they would bring a new grocery store, possibly an Aldi, to put into that space. A mini-mall? Really???? Does Deltona not want to progress beyond what it is?
