Top Performing Surgeon on staff at Florida Hospital DeLand

The Florida Hospital DeLand Orthopaedic Center of Excellence is proud to announce Mark Hollmann, MD, is the top performing knee replacement surgeon in Central Florida. According to floridahealthfinder.gov, Dr. Hollmann performed 227 artificial knee implants in 2009, while the majority of surgeons in the area do less than 50 a year and some under 10.

“Although we are a smaller community hospital, we have some of the top physicians in the area on staff,” said Randy Surber, Florida Hospital DeLand Chief Operating Officer.

Studies have shown medical personnel who have the most experience performing a treatment or service tend to have the best results. Higher hospital surgical volumes have been associated with lower complication rates following total knee replacement.

State health officials have set up floridahealthfinder.gov, an online service, to provide health care consumers and providers information about the quality of Florida’s health care system. In this case, consumers can look up which doctors and hospitals performed knee replacement surgeries.

With a commitment to transparency, the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration not only posts physician information but includes dozens of hospital comparisons on costs, death rates, infections and complications in many fields, from cancer to heart disease to diabetes to women's health. Consumers can also research health plans, nursing homes, hospices and drug prices at pharmacies.

“At Florida Hospital DeLand, we feel it is important for patients to have access to all available information when making important health care decisions,” said Surber. "We are proud when our physicians rank among the most experienced in Central Florida."
