Eric Olsen awarded Builder of the Year, again

At least one of the guests at the Volusia Building Industry Association's annual Holiday Party and Installation Banquet in December probably experienced a real deja vu moment.

Everybody who’s anybody in the new home business in Volusia County was gathered at the LPGA Clubhouse for the festivities, but it was Eric Olsen who left that evening in possession of the VBIA’s coveted “Builder of the Year” award – for the second time in three years.

Not only was he also named Builder of the Year in 2008, he’s a Past President of the VBIA (2007) and the 2006 Flagler HBA Showcase Home Builder.

This year, VBIA officials made it clear that while the area has more than its share of excellent builders and developers, Olsen routinely goes “above and beyond” to stand up for home builders' and buyers’ rights by representing the Association in governmental and legal matters.

“Any one of the nominees would have been a good choice for Builder of the Year,” said incoming VBIA President Mark Bines. “In fact, our whole membership deserves recognition for their commitment to fine design, quality work and outstanding customer service. But Eric really goes the extra mile. Not only is he passionate about his own customers’ needs, he’s a tireless advocate for all home buyers. He’s out there practically every day meeting with city and county councils, city planners, building officials, the development commission and on and on and on.”

Olsen, as sincere as he is passionately dedicated, was quick to share the kudos with his wife Shelly, co-founder of the couple’s respected Olsen Custom Homes. “Her business card says ‘Vice President of Operations’ and you better believe we couldn’t operate without her.”
