Eric Gershman, MD, has joined the medical staff of Florida Hospital DeLand.
"It's great to be back in Florida," said Dr. Gershman. "It's where I grew up, went to university, and is close to many family and friends."
Before coming to Florida Hospital DeLand, Dr. Gershman was at Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD) in Morrisville, N.C., a leading global contract research organization (CRO), which provides drug discovery, development and lifecycle management services. Prior to PPD, he was in private practice with Lake County Hematology and Oncology, Tavares, Fla.; Radiation Therapy Oncology, Mobile, Ala.; and Collier County Medical Oncology, Naples, Fla.
Dr. Gershman is committed to providing compassionate, quality care to all his patients. His broad knowledge and hands-on practical experience in hematology and oncology allows him to treat patients and help them cope with a variety of health issues.
"The most enjoyable part of my day is listening to and talking with my patients," said Dr. Gershman. "With new therapies and drugs, it's an exciting time to be in the field of cancer treatment."
His practice focuses on a wide variety of health systems including: Oncology: All solid tumor types; Endocrine/Metabolic: Thyroid cancer, MEN1, carcinoid; Hematology: Malignant and non-malignant hematology, coagulation disorders, and blood disorders; Respiratory: Lung cancer, head and neck cancer; Digestive System: Gastric carcinoma, colorectal cancer, pancreas cancer; Genitourinary: Prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular cancers; Dermatology: Skin tumor, melanoma, squamous cell cancer, basal cell cancer; Musculoskeletal: Soft tissue malignancies; Transplants: Bone marrow transplants in solid tumors and hematologic malignancies; Nervous System: Brain tumors
He is board-certified in Hematology, Medical Oncology, and Internal Medicine and is also bilingual in Spanish and English. Dr. Gershman’s research activities have focused on Oncology, Hematology, Nervous System/Sense Organs, and Transplants.
Dr. Gershman did his fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at New York University, New York City, N.Y., where he also completed a four-month elective in Bone Marrow Transplantation at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital at Cornell University. His residency in Internal Medicine was at Louisiana State University, New Orleans, LA after receiving his medical degree from Central University of the Caribbean, Bayamon, PR. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with his undergraduate degree from the University of South Florida, Tampa.
A resident of DeLand, Dr. Gershman enjoys many outdoor activities, fishing, and exercising at the local YMCA.
