Haven Hospice welcomes new vice president and chief medical officer

News source: Haven Hospice

After an extensive national search, Haven Hospice is pleased to announce that Dr. Stephen Rothstein has been named Haven’s new vice president and chief medical officer.

“I am delighted to welcome Dr. Rothstein to provide leadership, medical oversight and direction for our patient care services,” said Haven President Tim Bowen. “He will ensure that our clinical staff continues to provide the highest quality services and consistently meet our patients’ and families’ expectations for their care.”

An experienced educator at the national level, Rothstein will represent Haven in the medical community and at area educational institutions, building alliances that will raise awareness of how hospice care benefits patients and their entire family.

As a physician who believes in providing patients with comprehensive care—physical, emotional and spiritual—Rothstein said providing hospice care has been his most rewarding experience. “Patients allow you to grow extremely close to them and they want to tell you their story,” he said. “They give back to us as much as we give to them.”

A graduate of the Citadel, Dr. Rothstein earned his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina. His experience includes emergency medicine, private practice, and the last 12 years as a medical director with two managed care organizations. He also served as a hospice medical director. Dr. Rothstein comes to Haven Hospice from Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania, where he served as senior medical director.
