GAINESVILLE — Haven Hospice is pleased to welcome Karen McLin, PharmD, as director of pharmacy. As a clinical liaison to Haven’s physicians, she oversees the pharmaceutical care provided to every patient admitted to Haven. “Our physicians are specialists in treating patients with pain,” she said, “and our goal is to provide as much comfort as possible for our patients at the end of life.”

She comes to Haven with 18 years’ experience as a clinical pharmacist, most recently with AvMed HealthPlans, where she was responsible for its medication management programs, providing pain management consultation services to members, serving as a liaison to leadership for policy and procedure development, and administering an advanced pharmacy practice site for pharmacy students. Prior to that, she was a clinical pharmacist at North Florida Regional Medical Center.

Karen earned her doctor of pharmacy degree at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan., and completed her bachelor of science in pharmacy at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Her training included an extended clerkship with the Pain and Palliative Care Service at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.

With many years of experience in pain management, Karen specializes in educating nurses and other health-care professionals about treating chronic pain. Since March 2003, she has served as clinical assistant professor at the University of Florida and has developed numerous advanced pharmacy practice programs for pharmacy students.
