Sometimes dreams do come true.
Take Jane Kramer of DeLand, for example. When she read about the AAA and Starwood $25,000 Vacation of a Lifetime sweepstakes in the AAA Going Places magazine, she really wanted to win the trip for herself and her husband, Ross.
Jane, the sister of Beacon publisher Joann Kramer, went on the couple's home computer to enter the contest.
"You could enter it every day, and I did, almost," Jane said.
She said she nearly went into shock when she learned she and Ross had won the prize.
"When they called, I just couldn't believe it. You read about people winning these things, but you don't expect to," Jane said.
The March/April issue of Going Places confirmed it.
Jane and Ross had hoped to use the prize to celebrate their anniversary in June. Now, it looks as if Ross won't be able to take the long trip, due to some health issues.
Jane is planning to take daughter Carol Richardson, who lives in Ohio, in his place.
Ross said all their friends and relatives asked for dibs on the ticket if Carol should not be able to go — but Carol wouldn't miss the trip.
The trip includes 11 all-inclusive nights in Italy: two in Venice, two in Florence, three in Rome and four in Sardinia. With it comes a $1,000 American Express card for vacation purchases.
