Artist Jill Cannady, center in the photo, is at work painting a mural for DeLand's Chess Park. The scene will depict chess players in the park, she explained. The mural is being paid for through Volusia County's Art in Public Places program, and it is going on the side of a building at 112 W. Indiana Ave., on the northeast side of Chess Park.
In the photo, Cannady is flanked by lift operator Chad Taylor, left, and her husband, Robert Sindelir, right.
Along with chess players, the mural depicts people otherwise enjoying the park.
The graphic image shows what the mural will look like when it is complete.
The Art in Public Places program has filled the new and historic courthouse in DeLand, the county administration building and other public places in Volusia County with art.
